And so we begin...

Best Valentine's gift ever!

Many who've shared our search journey for a property will know that we’ve been doing our due diligence on a 100 acre property in Waroona, which is about ninety minutes south of Perth on a scarp. Our plan is to create a glamping, off-grid eco resort.

Two very happy dreamers!

Yippee!

We walked onto the land as a wildcard curiosity-look, back on the 7th November. We’d been looking for a cute house on five acres to rent as an AirBnB & use as a country place sometimes.

But it was love at first sight for me.

“No, we are not in the position to develop land. Later, in a few years maybe,” my husband said.

But my heart remained stubbornly back there on the land. I had to find a way to get that land. I’ve spent hundreds of hours planning, investigating, getting quotes and learning about all the regulations & hoops we’ll have to jump through because it’s a bush block in a fire prone area (which is any block with lots of trees) & we’re accommodating tourists.

So, today on Valentines Day, our offer for the land was accepted. Now the new love of my life will be ours once we organize finance & receive council approval. There’s a lot to do to get this up & running. I’ve got time issues needing to have roads & infrastructure earthworks finished by May if we are to beat winter rains. If we miss that window, we won’t be able to excavate again until October because the ground will be too wet & muddy for heavy equipment. We probably won’t make it but I’ll give it a good try.

So, we are the almost-owners of the most beautiful block of Aussie bush, home to six emus, dozens of kangaroos, two wedge-tailed eagles, cockatoos galore, blue birds, hundreds of lizards and, hopefully, not too many snakes. Oh, and views forever.

It’s summer here, so it’s looking dry but when it does rain it’s so green and rich in color, and filled with wildflowers in Spring.

Upward, onward and taking a writing sidestep

I’ll try & keep writing my novels and stories but it’s definitely slowing me down ever since I started investigating this project. So sorry about this, but my hope is when it’s done I can go down there when we have vacancies and get a lot of work done in the peace & beauty.

We are beyond thrilled and feel so lucky to have found this magical land (and that’s a story in itself with meeting the owners & negotiating directly with them). Wish us well. It’s going to be a heck of a journey.
